Hold on a second - are they actually selling replacement knobs for some kind of audio equipment for $500 a pop and justifying that by saying they make a difference to audio quality?

the micro vibrations created by the volume pots and knobs find their way into the delicate signal path and cause degradation (Bad vibrations equal bad sound).

And the funny thing is that this isn't the wildest thing I've ever seen sold for your stereo- (some) audiophiles are among the dumbest people on the planet and will shell out for;
A pen that when used to mark CD's makes them sound better.
A trimmer that for only $500 will trim the rough edges of your CD's and stop them wobbling during playback.
Speaker cables for $2000 a metre marked with arrows that show the direction of the flow of electricity (no really ).
Wooden stands with curly sticks on top that stand in the corner of the room and make the stereo sound more gooder.
Holographic stickers that make CD's and indeed anything else they will adhere to sound better.
And my favourite- C37 lacquer that is attuned to the human ear and makes stuff you coat with it sound better- a snip at $300 for 50ml.

Funnily enough, when tested using actual test protocols that ensure a fair comparison, no difference can be heard. Audiophiles explain this by saying "all these things can only be detected if you know what you're listening to"

haha doesnt suprise me, mind saying that half of that stuff matters when building a sound studio where every small minute bit of detail is crucial in a music production process

To be honest I would have said the very same thing had I not worked at the bbc's recording studios in maida vale. Having spent time with the engineers and the guys who take care of the accoustic treatment of the syudios there, I can say that all these things do have an effect on sound production and reproduction.

The only thing is... there are only about 2% of people with the capability of picking up these slight differences and 0.5% of those are babies whose ears have not been damaged in any way but most changes in frequency are beyond our range of hearing, so it really would make a noticable difference in your listening experience.

Quality of cabling, plugs and components I can understand (although there gets a point where the difference must be so minuscule...) - but the knob on a volume pot? and
