This is an interest gathering thread, posted in a variety of forums for maximum exposure.
Iím trying to gauge whether thereís enough interest in another UK big game for 2006. Obviously, the game would have to fit into the line-up of Big/ Scenario games already scheduled
What I have planned is a little different from your usual day-long- yomp-through-the-woods-with-costumes scenario.
Ever walked down your high street or housing estate and thought ìIíd love to play paintball here?î
Iím hoping to book a MOD urban warfare training facility. This place is amazing, completely detailed, it has shops, houses, sewers, cars, a church, a petrol station, three story buildings and would be awesome for a game. If you saw the episode of ëTop Gearí where Clarkson races two cars through a mock-up village, being shot at by squaddies, youíll get an idea of the sort of thing I have in mind. This is three dimensional CQB-MOUT-FIBUA-OBUA.
Iíd like to keep the scenario simple as the environment is complicated, so my basic storyline is two rival teams fighting it out through the town, with arm bands of two very different colours to differentiate them. Maybe a squad of mercenaries for hire to throw the balance a bit. In the best tradition of video games, there will be health packs, food packs and energy packs to collect for points or to trade. Iíd like to bring in some things Iíve seen at games in the USA, most likely having ëMedicsí on field and also having a short ëFinal battleí to close things off.
Iím open to ideas, as far as Iím concerned this would be your game, so you can decide how you want to play it. Do you want more of a storyline/plot? Props? Flag bases? Costumes?
Iím not very bright and I struggle to follow the finer points of plot in most games Iíve played. I canít be arsed to work out whether the guys in the mauve shirts with the orange armbands are on my team this hour or not. I canít keep track of when the enemy base is worth more points and I sure as hell canít remember what special items I need to kill the impervious alien bloke. I just want to play paintball!

Couple of other things to bear in mind:
As this is a game on MOD property, there might not be camping available. Alcohol, drugs and other contraband not allowed. All entrants would be subject to search. All players would have to be over 18 . Field paint only- the MOD would want the site pristine afterwards so an easy clean, non-staining paint would have to be used.
Iíd like to emphasise that this is totally non-profit making! Costs to you would cover the MODís site costs and other running costs only.
I welcome any thoughts you might have. Pm or email me or post up here.

Cheers
Andy

I would love to play an urban set-up, but I have various thoughts on it:

- how big would the site be - ie would the teams always be face on, or is there a chance to flank each other and end up playing from completely opposite ends? It is better when the playing fields are not just oblong, but wider to mean that one side pushes when the other side falls (I'm thinking of Kenny's when this happened regularly! )
The size of the playing area would then decide the size of the teams. How many were you thinking of?

- objectives - I can never work out who is supposed to be doing what at whatever time! I don't think you would need to do much of a plot because playing in urban is different enough, and too many different groups is far too complicated!

- marshalling the buildings...

- the clean up...it would never look as good as it started...

I think it's a great idea and I'm sure folks will be up for something new.

The only problem i can see is the no alcohol rule!!! devil.gif

Seriously, a lot of people on the big game scene attend the events for the party the night before!! The social aspect can be as important as the actual game for some people, might be something to think about.....

Why dont you just do it in Slough?
You have everything there and the locals wouldnt even bat an eyelid at people running around with guns!

Point(s) taken.
I'd like to keep the numbers not too huge, I had 220 as a baseline figure, plus marshalls and support crew.
The field should have plenty of blind spots, interconnecting buildings and tunnels, so outflanking the opposition should be a doddle.

I'm well aware that the social side is as inportant to some people. I think we have to take on board that if we want a game in this unique enviroment, then we have to abide by the military's rules. It's a small price to pay for what I hope will be a game unlike any other here in the UK.

Clean should be time consuming but not too difficult. The paint used would be a non-staining, easy clean formula. Similar stuff was used at the Nightmare City scenario in Florida on a National Guard training facility with no problems.

thanks for the support and I'm totally open to ideas, so keep 'em coming in.

Perhaps find a large campsite nearby? Or even a field with some imported portaloos? This would allow debauchery and still keep the MOD happy cool.gif

At least site paint only means no black bullets squeeze.gif

I think thats a great idea and I would love to come down and watch that.
You could have a scenario where 1 team occupies a building with a dummy hostage and the other team has a certain time limit to eliminate everyone and save the hostage without the hostage being shot but thats just a suggestion. Keep me posted.
